Ford Mustang India Launch Being Planned?
Our first reaction on coming across this news was, WOW! Ford is reportedly planning on introducing the Mustang coupe in India. The Mustang is an all American muscle car that is no less than a legend. The idea of bringing the Mustang to India has surfaced owing to the brand's 50th anniversary celebrations that begin next year.
In an AutocarIndia exclusive, the publication states, Ford is currently working on a right hand drive variant of the Mustang that will be later launched in appropriate markets such as the United Kingdom and Australia. India is also reportedly in the automaker's radar, but it is still studying the feasibility of launching a sports car such as the Mustang in a conservative market such as ours.
The Mustang is unlike any European sports car. The car is beefy, large and relatively heavy. The car is characterized by its muscular long hood and the broad front fascia. Hence the term muscle car.

Ford Mustang comes in 2 door coupe (2 and 2+2 seating), hatchback, fastback and convertible body styles. A standard four door sedan variant of the Mustang does not exist. Out of the factory, the Mustang coupe comes with three engine options, a 3.7 liter V6, the 5.0 liter Mustang GT and the 5.8 liter supercharged V8 powered Shelby GT500.
Ford Mustang was introduced to the world on April 17, 1964, in New York. Since then, dozens of special edition and modified Mustangs have takn birth. On its 50th anniversary next year Ford will be unveiling a special edition model to commemorate Mustang name, at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
In India, the Mustang would propel the Ford name, changing its image for ever, from the makers of compact, affordable mass market cars to a premium car maker. But nothing is confirmed yet. The company is still looking into the possibility of such a launch. If it does launch it, it would be become the first American muscle car to be made available in the country.
If finalised, the launch is likely to happen in 2015. As for the price, with the weakening Rupee against the dollar, it is anyones guess. We speculate it would not come for less than 50 lakhs.
