Ford EcoSport Price Reportedly Starts At Rs 6 Lakh
When Ford finally launches the EcoSport some time in June it could come as a heavy blow not just to its direct competition, which include compact SUVs and crossovers, but also to smaller cars from entirely different segments such as premium hatchbacks and compact sedans. This is because the EcoSport will have a starting price of just about INR 5.9 to 6 lakhs, according to an ET report.
Currently Renault Duster enjoys huge demand in urban India, with robust sales ever since its launch in July last year. So successful has Renault's debut in the SUV segment in the country been that it has even affected segment leader M&M. Ford EcoSport's entry could change everything.

Renault Duster has a starting price of just over INR 7 lakhs, which goes up to INR 11 lakhs. Competitive at present, but against Ford EcoSport's expected starting price of just INR 6 lakhs it is evident Renault will have to rethink its pricing strategy. Even the highest variant of the EcoSport will reportedly cost not more than INR 9 lakhs, which could lead to disastrous consequences for Duster sales.
Ford's pricing strategy is so well planned that even Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki could be forced to slash down prices of i20 and Dzire high end variants. Prices of top end variants of premium hatchbacks and compact sedans exceed INR 7 lakhs, way more than EcoSport's starting price.
Ford EcoSport's extremely competitive pricing is down to two main reasons. The first being the vehicle's sub 4 meter length, which exempts it from higher excise duty. The second reason is Ford's production strategy. India will be the global production hub for the EcoSport. With the increase in production numbers, production cost goes down and hence proves beneficial to the country where the vehicle is manufactured.
