Fiat To Export Chrysler Products Built In India

Executives have already began talks with suppliers and part vendors and are analysing the feasibility of implementing the plan. If it comes through brands under the Fiat Group, including Jeep and Dodge could start producing models in India, both for local and export markets.
A vendor familiar with the matter has informed Livemint that the plan is to manufacture 600,000 units bearing the Chrysler name in India and 90% of that number will be exported.
The Italian automaker owns 58 percent stake in Chrysler, which could turn 100 percent in the coming years. Fiat's direct presence in India is negligible when compared to other foreign brands like Honda, for example. By deciding to end its partnership with Tata, Fiat made its first move towards serious growth in the country and this will be further bolstered with the entry of a couple of Jeep products later this year.
At present Fiat has a manufacturing facility in Maharashtra and a R&D center in Chennai. But taking into consideration the on going development Fiat could join the league of major foreign auto brands in India.
