Ferrari Electric Cars Will Never Happen, Says Boss

There is, however, an exception. As always. And the name of that exception is Ferrari, the Persian cat among house cats. During a press conference at Ferrari's factory in Maranello, chairman, Luca di Montezemolo made clear the company's goal. Exclusivity. This means building fewer cars, the exact opposite direction every other manufacturer is heading in.
"In order to preserve this exclusivity concept, you must be brave enough to manufacturer the lower number of cars," Montezemolo said. "Those who buy a Ferrari buy a dream, and they must be reassured that their dream of exclusivity will be fulfilled."
He further added, "Ferrari is like a beautiful woman. You must desire her, you must wait for her."
2012 was Ferrari's best year - ever. A total of 7,318 Prancing Horses were sold during that year. In 2013 Ferrari will actually lower that number to 7000 units or below. But Montezemolo did say they would match the profit earned in 2012 despite selling fewer cars. The automaker has already sold 1,798 units so far this year.
Another general direction the supercar league, for that matter, the whole of automotive industry, is heading towards is electric drivetrain technology. Two exotics from this year, the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari both employ hybrid systems. The upcoming Porsche 918 will also be a hybrid. But the LaFerrari is once again different than the others. It does not feature pure electric drive capability. And it never will. When asked about the same Montezemolo repeated a statement, which he has made in the past. "We will never manufacture an electric car as long as I'm chairman."
