DUT13 Electric Car By Delft University Students Breaks 0-60mph Record
Million dollar supercar makers around the world stood up and took notice recently when a car, hand built by university students became the quickest electric car in the world, humbling the likes of Tesla Model S and even the gasoline powered open wheeled Ariel Atom.
Named DUT13, this electric car set a new Guinness record by travelling from a standstill to a 96 km/h (0-62 mph) in an eye popping 2.15 seconds!! (Previous record stood at 2.68 seconds) That's quicker than any road legal supercar can go. The fact that the car was actually developed by students makes the feat ever more impressive.
So, what's the secret behind the quickest electric car? The most basic answer would be power to weight ratio, apart from the years of technology that has gone into the making of the car through trial and error methods.

DUT13 electric car is the 13th edition of a car which has been in constant development for more than 12 years.

A team of 20 students of Delft University of Technology, Netherlands started with DUT01 project in 2000, which has now resulted in the record shattering DUT13 electric car.

The car has a monocoque chassis made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic on which all the components are mounted. The final resulting weight is only 145 kg.

Powering this featherweight car are four wheel hub mounted 25 kW motors. Combined power output at disposal is 132 HP.

Power comes from a 43 kg lithium ion battery pack of 6.3 kWh capacity.

The last ingredient required was a light driver, a post that was filled in by 24 year old team member Marly Kuijpers, the lightest and smallest member of DUT Racing Team.
