Traffic Rule Violators To Be Arrested This Holi

According to a report on Indian Express, more than 8,526 people were charged with driving and riding under influence, for over speeding, triple riding, dangerous driving, traffic signal violations, riding without helmets and more during last year's Holi.
To ensure more people follow traffic rules this time over Delhi Police has issued an advisory to the public to obey traffic rules during this year's Holi, along with announcing several new arrangements to curb offences. This includes, deployment of about 200 special monitoring teams.
More importantly, anyone found violating traffic rules will not be fined as is usually the rule. Instead, violators could be arrested and their vehicles confesticated.
Indian Express quotes Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla as saying,"Special checking teams with alcometers and speedometers will be deployed at major intersections to detect and prosecute violations. In case of drink driving, besides prosecution, the drivers are liable to be arrested and their vehicles impounded."
"Drink driving is now punishable with a jail term and suspension of driving licence, besides a fine. This year, up to March 15, 6,809 drivers have been prosecuted for drink driving out of which 948 drivers have been awarded jail terms. Driving Licences of 99 persons have been suspended," Shukla said.
