Datsun K2 Renderings Revealed
The very first renderings of the hatchback bearing the Datsun brand name in the 21st century, code named K2 is poised to make its arrival on July 15th. The Datsun brand revival will be held at Kingdom of Dreams, where Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is expected to reintroduce the brand to the world. In preparation for the event Nissan has released a couple of sketches of the K2. At the same time, the Datsun website has gone online, which at present, is counting down to the July 15 event.
Datsun K2, which is based on the Micra platform, will also use the same 1.2 liter three cylinder engine. But the engine will be tuned to offer higher fuel economy. While the K2 will be the first Datsun, it will be followed by a host of new models in 2014, which will go on sale in India, Indonesia, Russia and later in South Africa. While each of these vehicles will have specific feature sets, unique to the country in which they will go on sale, the Datsun brand will represent a few common values which will define it.
These will include, an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility, at right and transparent price and a competitive Total Cost of Ownership. These are values common not just to the brand, but also values that customers in the target markets look forward to when buying a vehicle.
Vincent Cobee, Head of Datsun said, "Datsun will bring competitive products and services, modern and aspirational, while at the same time reassuring, providing superior value and specifically developed for the emerging and ambitious new Middle Class in high-growth markets. The Datsun cars will be locally developed with the support of Nissan Motor Company engineers and stylists and will be locally produced."

The hexagonal grille will be a brand differentiator.

Beside the brand defining frontt grille, note the sharp body lines, which, dare we say adds a sporty character? in a notably compact body.

The Datsun website is now online.
