Bugatti Veyron's Successor Could Cost £5 Million
Rumors about a Bugatti Veyron successor are not new. From the time competitors (read SSC and Hennessey) began challenging the Veyron's speed record, reports speculating about a more powerful and faster Veyron have been doing the rounds. The latest such rumor comes from Autocar, but one which is backed by quotes from company insiders. According to the British publication, Bugatti is eager to bring out the new car as early as next year. The new car will be a "fantasy in terms of its performance" says the source.
Having said that, the person explains that such a program will get the go ahead only after studying the feasibility of the project because of the time and costs involved. Only when the team is sure of selling the limited units produced will it start with the development. So how expensive will this new car be? The estimated figure at the moment stands at 5 million pounds. That would make it more expensive than any other supercar currently being sold. For that kind of money it would be fair to expect equally astounding performance.
The obvious direction to take would be towards weight reduction. At 1888 kg, the Veyron Super Sport is not a light supercar. This also means the 1184 HP has a lot more weight to lug compared to rivals, the Venom GT (1,244 HP and 1244 kg) and the yet to be launched SSC Tuatara (1350 HP and 1247 kg).
Hence the new car would shed at least 200 kg by using carbon fiber more extensively, while the quad turbo W16 engine output will reach the 1500 HP mark. Top speed, on the other hand, will be restricted by tyre technology. At present the Veyron's tyres degenerate at an alarming rate when speeding at near top speed. 60 km to be exact. Never the less, expect the Bugatti Veyron to achieve the 450 km/h barrier.
