Wi-Fi internet connection on the move in India is rare and devices and services that do provide it are expensive. That could soon change with the introduction of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ‘s (BSNL) Wi-Fi network modules for cars.

BSNL Indore has already started providing Wi-Fi modules for cars and other division throughout the country are expected to soon follow through. The device provides Wi-Fi network speeds of up to 3.5 Mbps and network stability is further boosted by an external antenna. The device uses CDMA technology and is the first CDMA based Wi-Fi device to offer speeds of up to 3.5 Mbps in the country. The Wi-Fi module was first tried and tested in Mr. GC Pandey's car, who is the unit general manager of Indore's BSNL division.

While you might be able to connect to the internet using a 3G dongle you will soon face connectivity issues once the car starts moving. A Wi-Fi module such as this is specially designed to maintain signal even while moving, thus providing error free connectivity. BSNL's Wi-Fi module will cost between Rs. 5000 and Rs. 6000.
