New BMW X4 Model Coming In 2014
BMW will introduce a new member to its ‘X' SUV family in 2014. The BMW X4, however, is being called an SAV, standing for Sports Activity Vehicle. The announcement was made by Dr. Norbert Reithofer, chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG during the annual press conference.
The new BMW X4 will be built on the new X3 platform. However, X4 will be priced above X3 and below X5. The new X4, which will be developed under the codename F26, will measure 4650 mm long, the same as X3 again. Going ahead, however, from the second generation X4 onwards significant changes will be introduced, including more luxurious interiors, setting it apart from X3.
The 2014 X4 SAV will use the same 4 and 6 cylinder mills from X3, in both petrol and diesel variants and will be manufactured in BMW's Spartanburg plant in South California.
"We created the premium Sports Activity Vehicle segment. Until then there were no all wheel drive cars on the roads that were so sporty. From the late 1990s to date, we have sold over 2.7 million BMW X models. "Next year we will expand our offering in this segment with the BMW X4," Dr. Norbert Reithofer said.
It was also announced during the press conference that 25 new models would be introduced by the end of 2014, 10 of which will be new models, including the X4.
