BMW i3 Electric To Be Revealed On July 29: Video
The production version of the first of the several BMW ‘i' cars, the i3 small car, will be revealed on July 29. The Bavarian automaker has released a teaser video (a short music video, with only a glimpse of the silhouette of the i3 provided), in which it tells us "It's time to learn a new German word: Vorfreude" That's ‘anticipation' in German.
And anticipated we have, for quite a long time. But despite a gap of two odd years of the initial reveal of the concept i3, we have seen the small electric vehicle several times. Mostly, wearing different patterned camouflage and during other times in several concept forms. At last, the time has now come for the final production version to be revealed. At just under 4 meters, BMW i3 is one of the smallest cars ever offered by the automaker. Despite that, the car will be a four door, with the rear door opening in reverse direction.
The i3 EV will be offered in two version. The first will be a pure electric one. This will be powered by a 125 kW (167 HP) electric motor, that will run on electricity from a lithium-ion battery.
BMW i3 EV will have a range of approximately 160 km.
The i3 hybrid version will also feature the 167 HP motor, but the battery will be assisted by a twin cylinder motorcycle engine, acting as a generator.
The hybrid i3 will have an extended range of nearly 300 km
The lithium ion battery will come with quick charge functionality, enabling it to reach 80 percent capacity in an hour.
BMW i3 electric vehicle will also make use of some unconventional materials to save on weight, such as carbon fiber reinforced plastic.
