BMW 3 Series GT India Launch Near
In what can be viewed as a wise move, it is being reported that BMW is planning to launch its smaller GT car, the 3 Series GT in India. The German automaker already has the 5 Series GT on offer in the country, but the smaller GT car, which offers the space of an SUV and feel of a sedan for a lower price, is likely to sell better than its larger sibling.
While an official confirmation has not come from BMW yet, the 3 Series GT could be launched as soon as the end of the year, if not at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The smaller GT car will be positioned in between the 3 Series sedan and the 5 Series. Final pricing will depend on whether it will be assembled locally or imported.

Internationally, 3 Series GT is offered with five engine options. For India, BMW will reportedly restrict its engines to the diesel units - the 184 HP, 380 Nm torque, 4 cylinder turbo 2 liter engine and the 254 HP, 560 Nm torque, six cylinder 3 liter unit. These will be controlled via an eight speed automatic transmission.

BMW 3 Series has a taller wider stance compared to the sedan. It measures 200mm longer, 50mm taller and 17 mm wider than sedan. Even the wheelbase grows by 110mm. This means it GT car is even more spacious than the BMW X1 compact SUV.

BMW 3 Series GT comes with a boot that opens like the Skoda Rapid Spaceback, where the rear windshield is part of the door. Special about the boot door is that it opens automatically with a wave of the foot underneath the rear bumper.

The rather broad rear end of the GT looks bold, but sedan users will take some time to get used to it. The 3 Series GT as a whole holds a superior road presence compared to the sedan.

The equipment offering and aesthetics on the inside will be similar to the 3 Series sedan, albeit more spacious.
