BMW 2-Series Coupe Makes Official Appearance
BMW has revealed images and details of the first ever 2-Series coupe, the successor to the 1-Series coupe. The compact coupe follows BMW's new naming strategy which names the sporty models with even numbers, like the existing 4-Series and 6-Series.
The new 2-Series coupe will make its first public appearance in Detroit at the start of 2014 and will go on sale soon after. If BMW plans on introducing the compact sporty coupe in India it will happen during the later part of the year. As always BMW's PR has plenty of details. We have highlighted the notable ones for you in the gallery below.

Like its predecessor the 2-Series coupe will be rear wheel driven, which BMW says gives the car class leading performance.

The design team for the 2-Series coupe was headed by BMW head of design Karim Habib. The new coupe looks a lot more refined, streamlined and modern It has lost the mildly boxy features of the 1-Series and in its place are sleek body parts.

Notable changes have appeared on the headlamps, the kidney grill, the lower bumper, the fog lamp section and also the ORVM. Not a lot seems to have changed at the rear, except for the lamp cluster and the added reflectors on the bumper.

The interior is mostly similar to the last 1-Series, but the new vehicle gets the latest gadgetry and several extra trim fittings.

The 2-Series coupe measures 4432 mm long, 1774 mm wide and 1418 mm high, with a 2690 mm wheelbase making it 72mm longer, 24 mm wider and 7mm lower than the 1-series coupe it is replacing, along with a 30 mm-longer wheelbase.

BMW also states that the 2-Series has a 20 liter larger boot, measuring 390 litres as well as an extra 19mm of front seat headroom and 21 mm of rear seat legroom.

Like other new BMW models the 2-Series coupe will be available in four individual trims or lines - SE, Sport, Modern and M Sport. The car will be available with three engine options and two transmissions.

BMW 220i: The engine will be a 2.0-liter turbo charged four cylinder engine rated at 181 HP and 270 Nm, with a 0-100km/h time of 7.0 seconds.

BMW 220d: The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder diesel is rated at 181 HP and 380 Nm. 0-100 gets done in 7.2 seconds.

Top of the line M235i (M Sport trim): 3.0 liter turbocharged six cylinder engine is rated at 322 HP and 450 Nm. This version can achieve the 100 km/h mark in 5.0 seconds.

All three engines come with 6 speed manual transmission, with an 8 speed automatic available as an option.

Later in 2014 BMW will also launch a convertible version of the 2-Series coupe. BMW is also rumored to launch an M235i xDrive all wheel drive variant.
