Audi R8 Catches Fire In Mumbai

We have been seeing several reports of the world's cheapest car the Tata Nano being engulfed in flames and getting burnt down. Critics of the Nano were saying technical glitches in the car could have lead to the car catching fire. Some even said the low price of the car meant low quality and hence such incidents were not unexpected.

Now what would you say if you have a car worth nearly INR 2 crores that catches fire? An Audi R8 has been reported to have caught fire in Mumbai on Sunday, 27th January, during a super car rally. The R8 caught fire on the Bandra-Worli sea link.

The super car rally in Mumbai is an annual event where several super cars from top brands including Audi, Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Bentley and many more participate. The organizers of the event have said the Audi R8 that caught fire was not part of the rally.

The Super Car rally began from Mumbai's Mahalaxmi Race Course. The R8 is said to have caught fire around the same time as the rally. The fire brigade was rushed in to douse the flames engulfing the Audi R8. Reports say the two occupants of the car escaped unhurt after the participants of the super car rally that was passing through the sea link rescued them.

Incidentally, Audi India boss Michael Perschke who was participating in the super car rally was also driving an R8. Audi India has recently launched the 2013 R8 in India. Mr.Perschke has stated that the company had taken possession of the burnt down R8 and was investigating the cause of the fire. Audi has reportedly found parts which indicate the car has been modified by the owner.
