New Audi Q3 Sport Base Variant Expected In July
With competition in the INR 25 lakhs region of the luxury car market in India becoming fierce Audi is feeling the pinch. Mercedes now offers the A Class and the B Class, that fall into this region, while Volvo has the V40 Cross Country to offer. BMW will soon come out with the 1 Series hatchback. This leaves Audi India.
To fill in this price gap India's largest luxury car maker has a simple plan to assemble a new base variant Audi Q3 locally. The new base variant Q3, called Q3 Sport, is expected to become available during the second half of the year for INR 25 lakhs (~ INR 2 lakhs less than the existing base variant). More details about the new car have surfaced, thanks to a tweet by AutocarIndia editor Mr Hormazd Sorabjee.
Audi Q3 Sport is the same base variant Q3 that is offered internationally. This is powered by the same 2.0 liter TDI turbo diesel engine, but delivers 140 HP/320 Nm torque as against 170 HP/350 Nm, delivered by the existing base Q3. Q3 Sport will also lose its Quattro all wheel drive system, with its 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission. In its place will be a 6 speed manual, transferring power to the front wheels. On the other hand, losing the all wheel drive means a weight reduction of 140 kg, bringing down the weight of the Q3 Sport to 1,445 kg.
Minus on the feature list will be, Powered front passenger seat, Seat memory, Daytime running lights, Xenon headlamps, Satellite navigation, Sunroof and Reverse camera.
