Audi Claims No.1 Spot In India

Audi Vs BMW
Audi India has thanked its fans and customers in a Facebook update for making it No.1 luxury car brand in India. The German premium carmaker which has been eyeing for the top spot since the past three years after overtaking Mercedes-Benz. BMW, the current leader in the premium segment is yet to reveal its sales figures for the year.

Audi India has claimed the No.1 spot in Facebook by posting an image which states: "2012 really was the year when we seized the day, 366 times; and raced towards the position of the No. 1 Luxury Car Brand in India. Thank you Audi fans for your love and support. Here's wishing you a wonderful year ahead!"

Mercedes-Benz India has stated that it has sold 7,138 cars in the year 2012. BMW on the other hand had earlier stated that it sold 7,389 cars between January and October. Audi was just 122 units behind BMW after selling 7,267 cars in the first nine months of 2012. Audi is yet to reveal the total number of cars it has sold in India this year.

The three German companies have been in a bitter sales battle ever since Audi started climbing up the sales charts. While Mercedes-Benz has been pushed to third spot, BMW and Audi have been very close to each other with BMW narrowly winning the sales race on a monthly basis.

The two carmakers have also been in a argument of sorts over the method of quantifying the number of cars each sell. While BMW India reports the sales of cars it sold in its showrooms, Audi India reports the number of cars it sells to its dealers. While BMW's sales reports can be considered as actual customer sales, Audi's process only reveals only the number of cars the company has sold and not the number of cars bought by customers.

Whatever be the argument, there is little doubt about Audi's growth in India. It has a wide product portfolio consisting small to large premium sedans and SUVs. Its latest Q3 has been a raging success and Audi is set to launch the refreshed version of the Q5 this year.
