Aston Martin Refreshes Engine Contract With Ford

By Ganesh

With Investindustrial becoming a part owner of Aston Martin it is more or less confirmed that the Gaydon, UK sportscar maker will eventually form a partnership with Daimler, which will see result in the former sourcing technology and engines from Mercedes Benz/AMG. However, such a partnership is far from being finalized and put into action.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin has no other go but to continue sourcing V8 and V12 engines for its vehicle lineup from Ford. In this regard Aston Martin has signed a new 5 year contract with Ford, UK media reports have confirmed. Neither automakers have made an official though, with Aston stating clearly that it does not comment on supplier agreements. Engine units for the British automaker are produced in Ford's Cologne, Germany plant.

The continued use of Ford sourced V8s and V12s automatically means Aston Martin will have go on relying on its ageing VH platform. Except the Cygnet small car every other Aston model is built on the VH platform. However, Aston will have to tune the engines to comply with new Euro 6 emission norms that will take effect starting from September 2014.
