A Hatchback Ambassador Model Confirmed
India's iconic car model, the good old Ambassador will soon have a younger and smaller cousin. Coming late this year or early next year will be a new hatchback version of the sedan. This was confirmed by Uttam Bose, managing director and chief executive officer of HM, who made the following statement during an interview given to Business Standard.
"We have just started the R&D (research and development) work. This hatchback version of the Ambassador will have all kinds of features and better interior, which a new-age customer looks for," Bose said
"The brand name Ambassador will be used for the car. There may or may not be a sub-brand," he added.

Bose said the hatchback Ambassador is still in the design stage and will be built on the existing platform.
Besides the news about the new hatchback, Bose also revealed that Hindustan Motors Ltd would introduce a new BS IV-compliant diesel engine for the existing model during Q2 of the next financial year. At present the Ambassador uses a BS III compliant diesel engine.
Furthermore, Bose stated, "In the second quarter of the fiscal, there will be a sub-four metre version. And, by the end of the next financial year, we will come out with an absolutely new model"
These fresh announcements follow excellent sales growth enjoyed by the company which, in February, managed to sell 826 units against 310 units during the same month last year.
