Mercedes Benz S63 AMG Revealed

The AMG version of the most luxurious Merc, the 2014 S Class has been revealed. However, when you take your first look at the new S63 AMG you will not notice the typical body adornments common to AMG tuned models. On the contrary, the S63 AMG almost as subtle as the regular S Class.

Looks apart, the 2014 Mercedes Benz S63 AMG has received the usual assortment of performance enhancing AMG parts. This means the S63 AMG looks just as elegant as an S Class is meant to look and gains sportiness without looking the part.

Among the few easily noticeable visual exterior changes are the new bumper with a front air splitter, side skirts and lighter alloy wheels.

The engine powering the S63 is an AMG 5.5 liter V8 twin turbo unit, which also powers a few other AMG models. The engine is mated to a very quick AMG Speedshift MCT 7 speed sports transmission.

The engine has a power output of 577 HP ( a jump of 49 HP) and a torque of 900 Nm.

Being an AMG model also means shedding weight wherever possible and the new S63 AMG is 100 kg lighter than its predecessor. This has been achieved through "AMG Lightweight Performance strategy".

To be a bit more exact, weight saving comes in the form of lighter alloy wheels, a lightweight braking system, lightweight lithium-ion battery, changes made to the 4MATIC all wheel drive system, aluminium body panels and use of carbon fiber parts in a few places.

The reduced weight and a more powerful engine results in a superior power to weight ratio of 7.9 lbs/hp. Thus, the S63 AMG can do a 0-100km/h sprint in 4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 300 km/h.

The remaining performance enhancements come with the usual improvements such as the Airmatic sports suspensions, new 16.5 inch dia carbon ceramic discs (a first for the S63) and the specially tuned AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

Being an S Class and an AMG, the interiors are the best you can get in a Mercedes Benz, which can again be enhanced with the widest range of optional equipments and features.
