2014 Jeep Cherokee Revealed, Could Come To India

Jeep has quietly released official images of the 2014 model year Jeep Cherokee, but with hardly any details. The Cherokee is Jeep's mid-sized SUV/crossover and is not to be confused with the larger and grander Grand Cherokee. Globally, the Cherokee will replace the Liberty and is meant to take on its prime rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Nissan X-Trail.

The automaker says, the Cherokee will be launched at the New York International Auto Show in March. According to Jeep, the upcoming Cherokee will be more off-road capable and will also provide 45 percent increase in fuel economy over the model it will replace.

The new Cherokee is built on Chrysler's Compact Wide platform that is also the base for the Dodge Dart in the U.S and Alfa Romeo Giulietta. In terms of design , the new Cherokee has a significantly different front end, but it still retains the trademark Jeep grille. As can be seen from the image, the front also features a new lower air-intake, with chrome outlining and new headlamp design.

As many of you might already know, Jeep has some exciting plans for India and the 2014 Jeep Cherokee fits the bill perfectly, mostly due to the category in which it is placed. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee is expected to get a 3.2L V6 engine, instead of a 3.6L unit, with a choice of a four cylinder unit as well. This perfectly makes sense as Jeep has put emphasis on fuel economy. However, if launched in India, Cherokee would more likely have a diesel instead of the 3.2L petrol unit.
