Ford EcoBoost Engine Production Crosses Two Million Mark
Ford EcoSport was one of those few models in India which sold well because of the name of the engine associated with it. The 1.0 liter EcoBoost 3 cylinder petrol engine. A lot has been said about Ford's EcoBoost engines since there launch four years back, almost all of them positive. The 1.0 liter unit was even awarded the 2013 International Engine Of The Year title.
This has created an aura of recognition around the celebrity engine. Meaning, more people buy a Ford model if it has an EcoBoost powering it. This trend in fact, has been found to be correct going by data collected by Ford. And its true not just for North America, but also for countries in Europe, Asia and Asia Pacific.

Yet another proof of the popularity of EcoBoost engine family came recently when Ford crossed the 2 million mark. The 2 millionth EcoBoost engine was a 2.0 liter inline four, which rolled off the assembly line in Louisville, Kentucky, bolted to an Escape.
While Indians are only familiar with the 1.0 liter 3 cylinder variant found in the EcoSport compact SUV, the family is made up of other members - 1.5 liter, 1.6 liter, 2.0 liter unit (which powers models like the Escape SUV) and a larger twin turbo 3.5 liter EcoBoost, which specifically does duty on large Ford F-150 pickups.
In a related story, VW is also developing an EcoBoost rivalling 1.0-liter TSI engine that will make its debut in the VW Golf. A test version of this engine was in fact, showcased last year in a VW Taigun, at the Sao Paulo Motor Show. That engine was a three cylinder 1.0 liter TSI rated at 110 PS power and 175 Nm torque.
