Why Are White, Silver Most Preferred Car Colours?
Adding proof, Maruti Suzuki, India'a leading carmaker confirms the fact. The company's chief general manager (marketing) Shashank Srivastava said: “Yes, white and silver still are the most dominant colours for cars. In fact, as a ratio, the share of white has become more than that of silver in recent years.”
But what could be the reason for this trend? The main reason is that white and silver coloured cars are easy to find buyers in the used car market. These colurs are considered auspicious by many buyers.
Also a major chunk of diesel cars are in white colour compared to petrol models owing to the reason that those cars are replaced frequently. “Though factors like fuel efficiency, the kms done, the condition in which a car is sold in the used car market, etc determine the price a used vehicle commands, for vehicle owners it is easier to find takers for standard white products as compared to coloured cars,” says Ford India head of sales N Raja.
Used white cars sell at a price Rs 10,000-15,000 higher than coloured variants, says a used car dealer. “Demand for the white colour is predominant across models. It particularly goes up in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) category. For the Endeavour, three-fourths of the sales come from this colour option,” says Raja.
However, there are cars which sell well in other colours. For instance, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Estilo models sell well in red and brown shades respectively. Intrestingly, the study also says that North Indians are more keen on choosing white colour for cars comparing to south Indians. Climatic conditions could be the reason behind this.
“India is by and large a hot country, therefore consumers prefer white over other colours,” says Honda India senior vice-president Jnaneswar Sen. Meanwhile, it's also interesting to note that white colour variants of cars like Maruti 800 and Chevrolet Beat are cheaper than variants. So what's your pick? Choose the best colour for your car.
