Volkswagen Polo GTD With 1.6-Litre Diesel
Volkswagen is set to launch a new Polo variant come 2013. The 2013 Volkswagen Polo GTD, is considered as a hot hatch that delivers performance but not at the cost of mileage.
Hot hatches have not been able to penetrate the Indian car market primarily because of their high fuel consumption. The driving pleasure from a powerful hatchback is still not enough to satisfy the discerning Indian car buyer. So Volkswagen has done a smart thing by using the 1.6-litre diesel from the Vento and using it in the Polo GTD.

While hot hatches across the globe usually have larger petrol engine, VW India has decided to use a slightly larger diesel engine. The larger diesel engine will deliver the power boost and the mileage will not drop significantly.

The Volkswagen Polo GTD will be faster, zippier and a treat to drive thanks to its additional power. The Polo being 90 kilos lighter than the Vento adds to the performance of the GTD.

The new Volkswagen Polo GTD will be an expensive hatch for sure. Reports say the new Polo GTD could be pricier than the current top end Polo by at least Rs.50,000. The higher price is due to higher excise duty.

The Indian government charges higher excise duty on compact cars measuring under four metres that are powered by engines larger than 1.5 litres. Naturally buyers of the 2013 Polo GTD will have to shell out more cash.
