The funky Chevrolet Beat hatchback from the American carmaker is at the third spot in our list. The Chevy small car had been leading in terms of fuel economy before the 2012 Nano came with a more refined and fuel efficient engine. Nevertheless, the car boasts a great fuel economy figure of 24 kmpl on the cheaper fuel. The Beat is powered by a 1.0 liter XSDE SMARTECH diesel engine that produces 58.5 BHP power and a maximum torque of 150NM.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Swift hot hatch is one of the best selling cars from the Indian carmaker. The small car from Maruti Suzuki which has been on the top sales charts for a few years comes at a starting price of Rs 5.6 lakhs for the diesel model. The diesel car gets power from a 1.3L DDis CRDI engine which produces maximum power at 73.9bhp@4000rpm and peak torque at 190Nm@2000rpm which is quite powerful and fun to ride. Along with it, the Swift offers very good mileage of around 22 kmpl which is quite a decent equation between power and mileage.
Nissan Micra
The retro looking small car tops in terms of fuel efficiency as well. The Japanese hatch which features stylish looks and good cabin space offers an impressive mileage of 23.08 kmpl. The diesel engine is a powerful 1461cc four cylinder k9k unit which produces maximum power output of 64 bhp and peak torque of 160 Nm. The Micra is slightly higher priced with a starting price around Rs 6 lakh.
