Schumacher: Around The World In A F1 Car
Formula 1's 2012 season came to an end in Sao Palo Brazil on Sunday and so did the illustrious career of one of the greatest ever Formula 1 driver - Michael Schumacher. Schumacher has been the crowd puller across the globe for a sport that was attractive only in certain European countries.
Michael Schumacher who is the owner of several records in Formula 1 broke yet another record in the American Grand Prix, his penultimate race. He is now the person to have travelled the maximum distance in a Formula 1 car while racing alone.
Michael Schumacher has driven a Formula 1 car for more than 80,000 kilometres or close to 50,000 miles. This distance is more than twice the distance one needs to traverse around the earth on the equator. Schumi's former Ferrari team mate Rubens Barichello was the holder of the record of the maximum distance run in a Formula 1 car.

Schumacher started his career as a Formula 1 driver for Benetton where he won two world championships in 1994 and 1995.

He then moved to Ferrari in 1996 where we witnessed the most successful reign by Formula 1 driver. Schumi won five consecutive world championships from 2000 to 2004.

Schumacher retired from Formula 1 in 2007 but stayed on with Ferrari as an adviser. He was on the verge of racing for Ferrari again as a replacement driver when Philippe Massa was injured. However, a neck injury prevented him from racing.

Michael Schumacher walked out of retirement and joined the Mercedes Formula 1 team in 2010 after signing a 3 year contract. Although he did not enjoy any success in terms of race wins or podium finishes, he was as always the highest crowd puller on any race track across the globe.
