GM Hoping To Sell 4k Sails A Month

Chevrolet Sail U-VA
General Motors has launched the new Sail U-VA premium hatchback in Kerala. The American carmaker is looking to sell at least 250 units of the new car in the state. The Sail U-VA has replaced the Aveo U-VA.

GM India believes the new Sail U-VA will be an important car in its line-up. In fact the carmaker's President and Managing Director Lowell Paddock believes the Sail could generate as many as 4,000 monthly sales despite sluggish market conditions.

Speaking to reporters during the Kerala launch of the Sail U-VA, Mr Paddock said: " The car brings a new sense of vitality to the largest, fastest growing and competitive segment in the domestic passenger car market."

Re-iterating the important place India has in GM's plans, Mr Paddock said the Indian market will continue to grow and will be among the largest car markets in the world despite the current sluggish conditions.

The slow down in car sales has been attributed to high interest rates and increasing inflation. GM India's vice-president P Balendran said he expected the market to improve in the coming months. However he did say the company will not be able to meet its sales targets for 2012 as it had phased out three models.

GM India is preparing to launch two new models in India in the coming months. The first one will be a sedan named Vista and the other one will be the Enjoy MPV.
