Renault Planning Tata Nano Rival Priced At 2.15L
French carmaker Renault is planning to launch two new low cost models designed specifically for emerging markets like India. One of the two new low cost models from Renault could rival the World's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, according to French news website Latribune.fr
The first among the two low cost models is being developed by Renault and its Japanese partner Nissan. This car is expected to be priced around 5,000 Euros or $6,400. This means in Indian money, this Renault low cost car could be priced at a little over Rs.3.5 lakhs. This car is expected to reach the market by 2014.

The second low cost car will be a small car that will rival the Tata Nano. The car is expected to be priced at 3,000 Euros or $3,900. In Indian currency, this small car will cost Rs.2.15 lakhs. Both the low cost cars will be built at Renault-Nissan's plant in Chennai and they will not be sold in the European markets.
The two low cost cars referred by French website Latribune.fr could be the first two models to be launched in India under the Datsun brand. It is yet unclear if Renault will also launch low cost cars under its own brand. The Datsun brand was revived primarily to launch low cost cars.
Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn had previously sated that Datsun will be launching two new cars in the next two years in India. The car group which had previously associated with Bajaj's low cost car project walked out of it this year. It had then stated tat it would develop suitable small cars for India on its own.
