Toyota Camry Launched In India At Rs.23.8L
Toyota has launched the 2012 Camry with a starting price of Rs.23.8 lakhs. The facelifted new Camry will be built in Toyota's plant near Bangalore. This will help Toyota keep the new Camry's price at a competitive level. The Camry was unveiled by Nobuyuki Takemura, the managing coordinator (Sales and Marketing) Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
Toyota has stated that the new Camry's price will be Rs.23.8 lakhs across the country. The new Toyota Camry is powered by a 2.5 litre 16 cylinder engine capable of delivering maximum power of 181PS at 6000rpm and maximum torque of 233Nm at 4100rpm. The engine is paired with a six speed automatic gearbox.
The new Toyota Camry delivers an ARAI certified mileage of 12.98kmpl. This might not be an impressive number for a hatchback owner. But considering the Camry weights an incredible two tonnes, this mileage figure is an expected number. The on road mileage of the Camry should be around 10kmpl. Toyota has stated that it is aiming the new Camry at buyers who are aged above 40
The new Toyota Camry will be built as a CKD in India. Toyota Kirloskar is importing CKD kits from Japan and assembling it here. The percentage of localisation is just 10%. The Japanese carmaker has not hinted about increasing this number in the near future. Toyota has so far invested Rs.18 crores in its Bangalore plant towards assembling the Camry.
The new Toyota Camry will be competing against other premium sedans such as the Skoda Superb (Price Rs.18 lakhs to Rs. 25.2 lakhs), Honda Accord (Price Rs. 20.28 lakhs to Rs.27.37 lakhs) and Nissan Teana (Price Rs. 21 lakhs to Rs. 25.4 lakhs)
