Maruti Suzuki Will Not Enter Premium Segment

The decision not to enter the premium car segment is justified considering the lukewarm response to the Kizashi premium sedan. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki has build its image as a reliable small car brand. To add to this, the small car segment continues to be the fastest growing segment in the Indian car market and Maruti Suzuki wants to continue in what it excels in.
Speaking about Maruti Suzuki's strategy, Mr R C Bhargava said: "We will never go to the premium segment. Neither Maruti nor Suzuki (Corporation) will manufacture such cars. Small cars will remain the largest segment in India and our focus is to be a first-class player in this segment as that is our bread and butter."
Maruti Suzuki with its dominant market position in India is all set to go global too. Reports say Suzuki Motor Corporation is planning to launch the Maruti Suzuki brand as a low cost brand in emerging markets in Asia and Africa. Maruti Suzuki already exports its models to several countries but the exported cars are branded only as Suzuki. The Maruti Suzuki A-star is sold as the Suzuki Alto across the globe.
Maruti Suzuki will be Suzuki's low cost car brand very much similar to Renault-Nissan's Datsun. Datsun will operate from India and two new products are expected to be launched in early 2014.
The push to increase exports in the future is evident from the fact that Maruti Suzuki has purchased another huge piece of land in Gujarat where it intends to build its second plant in the state. Mr Bhargava has said Maruti Suzuki will not be looking at assembling cars outside India for now.
