Maruti To Modift Swift Software To Rectify Brakes
The Maruti Suzuki Swift will soon get technical updates from the carmaker to rectify a braking issue that was reported by several customers. The Swift has been getting some bad press in recent weeks mostly due to the delayed deliveries due to the lock out in Manesar and due to an issue in its brakes which Maruti Suzuki has stated to be a small one.
Maruti Suzuki is now modifying the Swift's software to rectify an issue with the brakes. Customers had complained that that the brakes were not working while driving at low speeds. Maruti Suzuki had initially stated that this issue was caused due to drivers applying half clutch while driving.

Maruti Suzuki had previously given an advisory to its customers on its Facebook page asking them not to apply half clutch at low speeds. Now by modifying the Swift's software, Maruti Suzuki is rectifying a problem which it had previously denied to have existed. The company has not stated the modification in the software as a recall.
Swift drivers had complained about brake failure or the brake pedal becoming too hard press while driving at low speeds. The company had stated that applying half clutch would bring down the engine's rpm to a low level resulting in reduced pressure to the braking system This would result in the brake pedal becoming hard to press after continuous use in low speeds.
The brake issue in the Swift has been reported only i the new generation model that was launched in August 2011. The Swift is one of Maruti's best selling cars in recent months and the company has already sold more than 2.5 lakh cars of the new generation model till date.
Maruti Suzuki had asked some of its customers who had raised the issue to bring their Swift to a service centre to be checked. It was reported that the company was ,making some changes to the ECU to allow the engine's rpm to stay at a level that will allow proper braking.
Maruti Suzuki by not calling the change in the software as a technical recall is not breaking any rules as there is no clear cut recall policy in India. SIAM, the governing body of automobile manufacturers only has a set guidelines that its members need to follow.
