Know About The Highest Selling Indian Car

India is one of the largest growing car markets even with difficulties like sky high fuel prices and reported threats of excise duty hike on diesel cars. But, which is the highest selling car in the country and what is so great about it?

It is the Maruti Suzuki Alto that sells the most in the country. The Alto took the reins from the then best selling Maruti 800. Maruti Suzuki has been leading the market for long with a market share of around 60% and the carmaker sold around 20,724 Alto cars in the month of May. Interestingly, the Alto has also been the topper in world car sales for quite a while.

What makes the car appealing to car buyers is its low price (the second cheapest car in the market after the Nano) and practicality. The small car is highly maneuverable in the city traffic and narrow Indian roads besides the low running costs. The Alto is available in the regular model and the K10 version for which starting prices are Rs 2.4 and 3.2 lakhs respectively.

However, the Alto models which are available for sale now could be the last from its stable as the carmaker is reportedly planning to replace the small car with a new model. Sales of the car has also been getting affected due to the lack of a diesel powertrain.

Reports say that it is the Cervo small car that Suzuki sells in other markets which is likely to replace the Alto. Hope the Cervo continues the success of the Alto and creates many more happy customers.
