The battle of the small cars has begun. Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki who have always had at least battle between them have pitted their latest entry level cars against each other. The Hyundai Eon is now being compared with the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.

The Hyundai Eon when it was launched was considered as a car that could pose some serious threat to Maruti Suzuki's best selling car, the Alto. But now, following the launch of the new Alto 800, Hyundai has taken the battle to the new car through an advertisement.

Hyundai has compared the Eon with the Alto 800 on three basic parameters - performance, space and features. Here is a look at how the entry level variants of the two cars fair according to this comparison by Hyundai.

The Eon is powered by a 814cc petrol engine while the Alto 800 gets a 796cc engine. Hyundai has said the Eon's bigger engine delivers more power. This happens to be true as the Alto 800's engine can only deliver 48PS of power as against the Eon's 56PS.

The Eon also beats the Alto 800 when it comes to pulling power as its torque output of 7.5kgm is greater than the Alto 800's 7kgm.

The Eon turns out to be a winner when it comes to space too. It is 10mm longer, 60mm wider and 25mm taller than Alto 800. This means the Eon will have a more spacious cabin with better headroom and shoulder room.

The Eon's wheel base of 2380mm is also slightly longer than the Alto 800's 2360mm. This according to Hyundai will result in better leg room.

The Eon's ground clearance of 170mmis 10mm greater than the Alto 800's 160mm. This means the under body of the Eon is better protected while traveling on bad roads.

The entry level Hyundai Eon Era + comes with several features including front power windows, central locking, bottle holder, front door arm rest and rear integrated spoiler. The Alto 800 on the other hand only gets the front power windows.

So what we had so far was Hyundai's own comparison of the Eon against the Alto 800. But in a market like India where the price plays a pivotal role we should also compare the price of these two small cars.

The Hyundai Eon Era+ is priced at Rs.3.18 lakhs while the Alto 800 is priced at Rs.2.95 lakhs. So the price difference between the two cars not considering state taxes is about Rs.23,000.
