2012 Cars Get Huge Discounts From Carmakers
German premium carmakers BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz have had a fairy tale story in India in the past few years. These companies have been able to record annual sales growth at 30% thanks to steep discounts and at times by launching low priced cars that come with very few standard features.
Now these companies are facing the prospect of single digit growth rates from 2013. Sales in recent months have been nothing but sluggish. Some of their dealers are struggling to reach annual sales targets and are pushing in huge discounts.

Even the carmakers are helping out the dealers by offering discounts from their end. The total discounts available is as much as 15% which totals to Rs.10 lakhs. With the carmakers having launched new models in recent months, the dealers also want to clear out previous models. Buyers of these cars can expect to get more discounts this December.
BMW is offering a 10% discount on its out going X1 while Mercedes-Benz has announced discounts for its petrol variants. Audi is offering discounts ranging from Rs.2 lakhs to Rs.5 lakhs along with benefits such as extended warranty, free insurance etc.
Such heavy discounts from either of the three German premium car brands will probably be limited to this year only. All three of them have launched new models and the discounts are available mostly to out going cars. The year 2013 will have new models only and they will not come with a discount.
Although having high sales is a priority, carmakers such as BMW believe discounts can hamper their brand image and have asked dealers to desist from offering discounts on their own. BMW has said it does not intend to give discounts but has accepted some of its dealers might be offering discounts to clear stocks.
