Honda Brio Diesel Readying For Diwali Launch

Reports are that Honda will launch the diesel Brio by Diwali (October-November) this year, advancing its earlier plan to launch the car sometime in 2013. And if the Brio diesel lives up to the expectations of the carmaker, it could be the car of the time. The Brio diesel is expected to offer fuel economy figures between 20-25 kmpl.
A source close to the company was quoted as saying: “The Company was initially planning to launch the diesel model by 2013. However, with the increasing demand for diesel cars and the hike in petrol prices, the company is advancing the launch of Honda Brio by Diwali this year. The company has already asked the R& D department to speed up the work, and if required, it may also go for a third party arrangement.”
The demand for diesel cars have been so high in the country due to rising petrol prices. Honda has been losing market share due to the lack of diesel engines and by the launch of the Brio diesel, the company expects to regain the lost ground.
However, there has been no other information available on the other changes to the Brio diesel from its petrol variant. Expect the price of the Brio diesel to be Rs 60-80k higher than the petrol variant. The Brio petrol model is available at a starting price of Rs 4 lakh.
Meanwhile, other carmakers are trying hard to cope up with the huge demand for diesel cars. Leading carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motors and Volkswagen AG are giving huge discounts to attract customers to their petrol cars.
