Honda Lining Up 7-Seater MPV For India

With the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga doing wonders for the company by gaining 32,000 bookings in 1 month, almost all manufactures in India are bringing in their MPVs to gain some market share in the segment. The latest manufacturer to join the race is Japan's Honda Motor Company which is reportedly developing a new MPV for India codenamed as '2NH'.

The new 3-row, 7-seater MPV from Honda which is based on the platform of next generation Jazz will be developed on the same lines of Honda Freed MPV which is being sold in Malaysia. Besides Ertiga, the new Honda MPV will take it to the likes of Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and upcoming MPVs from Chevrolet and Nissan.

Honda Freed

With Honda's Earth Dreams series of diesel engines expected to arrive in the coming months, the new MPV would definitely get a choice of engines significantly diesel powerplants considering the demand for diesel vehicles in India. The Freed MPV features high quality interiors, spacious cabin, large luggage space and the new MPV would retain all the qualities except some changes in specification suitable for Indian market.

However, the price tag of the new MPV would determine the success of it. The Ertiga is available at an affordable price currently though the prices could be introductory. The new MPV from Honda is expected to arrive in India by 2014.
