2012 Fiat Linea – Engine, Power Performance
The Linea is available with 1.4 L "FIRE" petrol and 1.3 L Multijet diesel Engine. As mentioned earlier, we drove the 1.3 litre Multijet diesel. The Linea diesel offers excellent fuel economy with a claimed mileage of 20.4 kmpl. However, Fiat could have made the car a little more powerful as the turbo lag was evident in the second and third gears.
The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual, fully synchronized gear box with over drive on 4th and 5th. We found the gear shifts to be very slick. The greatness of the Linea is its handling. The steering is very responsive that you can turn around with your little finger. The Linea handled city roads and hilly bends with equal ease.
The 2012 Linea offers a host of new features like an attractive gadgetry, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirror, front and rear armrest with glove box, three rear headrests, collapsible rear sun protection curtain, rear AC vents at knee and foot level and power windows with auto down and delay feature.
On the safety front, the Linea offers dual front airbags, ABS with EBD that guarantees that it never skid out of control, FPS (Fire Prevention System) that automatically cuts-off the fuel-flow in case of impact, Anti-Theft engine immobilizer with rolling code, three safety headrests, double crank prevention system, programmable speed limit indicator that curbs over-speeding, programmable follow me home headlights, digital door open indicator with exact open door indication that informs you which door accidentally remained open and seat belt alert.
The new Linea will be a tough competitor to the likes of Maruti Suzuki SX4, Nissan Sunny, Hyundai Verna and Ford Fiesta. The car is available in three variants - Active, Emotion, and Dynamic. The car comes with a starting price tag of Rs 8.8 lakhs. We were very fond of the car (for its excellent handling, comfort) through out the drive except for its low performance.
