Bengal Governor Gets Himself A BMW 5-Series
The governor of West Bengal Mr M K Narayanan has bought himself a brand new BMW 5-Series. It is not unusual to see heads of states such as presidents and prime ministers riding premium cars but this could be the first time a state's governor has got a car that is so expensive.
The West Bengal governor's car was previously a Toyota Camry which the governor wanted to be replaced by the BMW. The governor's office had placed a request to the West Bengal state government to buy the Rs.45 lakh premium sedan from BMW. It is said there was slight resistance from the government officials over buying such an expensive car. reports say chief minister Mamatha Banerjee herself approved the purchase.
Many are confused over this decision considering West Bengal's finances being in a poor state. Further, the West Bengal government has set rules according to which only Ambassadors and Maruti cars could e bought for officials.
The West Bengal Governor was seen in his new BMW 5-Series yesterday. The BMW 5-Series is premium sedan that is available in both petrol and diesel variants. The cheapest 5-Series is the 523i which costs about Rs.39 lakhs. According to reports, the Bengal governor's BMW is worth Rs.45 lakhs which indicates he has opted for the 530d which is priced at Rs. 45.9 lakhs.
He BMW 530d is powered by a 3 litre diesel engine that generates 245bhp of power and 540Nm of torque. It is equipped with several safety features such as ABS, EBD, Engine Immobilizer etc. It has a spacious cabin with ample leg room both in the front seats as well as in the rear. The interior is finished in top quality leather.
