Bajaj May Launch RE60 Small Car By 2012 End

Latest reports are that the company may roll out the RE60 by 2012 year end. The company aims to make the RE60 as a replacement for auto rickshaws, more of a means for public transport. Bajaj Auto CEO Rajiv Bajaj had made it clear that the RE60 is not a car but a three wheeler with one extra wheel.
The RE60 is a four-seater vehicle which offers more comfort and safety than an Auto Rickshaw. The RE60 four wheeler will be powered by a 200cc liquid cooled single cylinder petrol engine that will produce 20 Bhp of peak power. Bajaj claims a mileage between 35-40 kmpl for the RE60 and this could become the biggest selling point of the vehicle.
The RE60 which is expected to be priced around 1 lakh is claimed to be very less on maintenance costs also. The RE60, developed under the ultra low cost(ULC) car project between Nissan-Renault and Bajaj would also feature a CNG version in the coming times. Bajaj is also said to be planning a goods version of the RE60 after the launch of the regular RE60.
