Bajaj Confirms RE60 Launch This Year
The launch of the Bajaj RE60 has been a topic of suspense since its unveiling at the Delhi Auto Expo this January. The four wheeler which was initially considered to be a competitor of the Tata Nano has emerged just as a replacement of the three wheeled auto rickshaw.
Bajaj Auto has now confirmed that it will launch the RE60 before the end of this fiscal year. The four wheeled RE60 is expected to be launched as soon as its commercial production begins. Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) Senior Vice-President (Business Development) S Ravikumar who has revealed this data has not confirmed any further details.
Bajaj Auto was faced with some criticism when it unveiled the RE60 in Delhi as it did not turn out to be a full fledged passenger car. The new vehicle was expected to be Bajaj's version of its low cost car.
Bajaj had started a low cost car project after signing an agreement with Nissan and Renault. However Renault-Nissan had expressed their dissatisfaction with the finished product. They had said they would market the car only if it suited its international standards.
The RE60 is expected to be launched in international markets too. It is powered by a rear mounted 200 cc engine. Bajaj Auto has so far not released the pricing details of the four wheeler. It is expected to deliver a fuel economy of 35kmpl and attain a top speed of 70kmph.
Bajaj has also stated that Renault-Nissan haven't responded yet about the low cost car concept it has developed. Bajaj started work on the its low cost car way back in 2008 and is yet to reveal a model that is close to completion
The Bajaj RE60's launch this year will be an important event for the Indian vehicle manufacturer. The success or failure of this light commercial vehicle will help it take important decisions on itslow cost car project.
