Will Mahindra Launch A Low Cost XUV500?

The XUV 500 has emerged as a top grosser for Mahindra and the carmaker has been struggling to reduce waiting periods. Its efforts to boost production are still under progress and the demand does not seem to have come down. At this juncture a low cost version would definitely add to the pressure on Mahindra.
Mahindra has a large range of diesel engines and the cheaper XUV 500 could be powered by one of these engines to bring down costs. The Xylo, Scorpio and Bolero come with different engines and the same could happen to the XUV too. Further Mahindra could remove some interior features and fittings too.
The XUV 500 was aimed at premium SUVs when it was launched. But its price is much lower when compared to its competitors. But the Tata Safari Storme will be a more closer competitor with a price tag that is similar or even lower than the XUV 500. This reason can be a strong enough one for Mahindra to look for a low cost XUV 500. But the question is can it deliver enough models to showrooms if there is a spike in demand?
