Mahindra To Boost XUV 500 Production To 5k

The XUV 500's production capacity currently stands at 3,500 units per month. The existing demand far outweighs the production capacity and hence Mahindra has decided to increase production to 5,000 units per month from September.
Mahindra has stated that it has been increasing production its latest SUV consistently since the past few months. It said it build about 4,000 XUV 500s in May. Pravin Shah, the chief executive of Mahindra's automotive division said: "We have been gradually increasing the production of XUV500. It has touched 4,000 units a month now and the next step is to take it to 5,000 units by September-October."
Mahindra has recently opened bookings for the XUV 500 again. It has stated that the SUV will be available across 19 Indian cities. The carmaker in its statement has stated that nine months of production capacity of the XUV 500 has already been sold out. As we said earlier the XUV 500 has maintained its long waiting period.
The XUV 500 was launched in September 2011 and it received more than 8,000 bookings within ten days of its launch. Mahindra stopped taking bookings for four months after that. Following the unprecedented demand for the premium SUV, Mahindra had to conduct a lottery to choose 7,000 buyers out of 25,000 people who had placed bookings.
