Demand for Dual-Fuel Option Cars To Rise!

By By: Vicky.in

Increasing prices of petrol and diesel are pushing the consumers as well as the car makers to use alternate fuels such as CNG(Compressed Natural Gas) and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas).

Maruti Suzuki, India"s largest passenger car maker is ready to launch dual - fuel options (Petrol with LPG/CNG) for five of its cars including the best selling Alto and Wagon R. Other leading car makers like Hyundai, General Motors are also keen on increasing their portfolio by providing more cars with CNG fuel option.

Many officials of various automobile firms believe that alternate fuel market is going to become stronger in the future days because if Petrol-CNG is used, the running cost per km is Rs. 1.31 and if Petrol-LPG is used, the running cost per km is Rs. 2.23. But, if you use petrol, the running cost is Rs. 3.44 and if your car is driven by diesel motor, the running cost is Rs. 2.35. Obviously, people will tend to save their hard earned money in cars which can run in LPG and CNG.

According to Ankush Arora, the sales and marketing head for General Motors in India, the sales of dual-fuel models constitutes 15-20 percent of total sales. GM currently offers LPG on its Spark mini car and CNG on Optra and Aveo sedans. Arora added that the company has plans to widen the dual-fuel option in its other models too, which includes the Chevrolet Beat"s LPG option by 2010 end.
