Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Review: Long Range EV SUV With Premium Feel — Worth The Wait?
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella marks Toyota's first fully electric offering for the Indian market. This compact electric SUV shares its platform with the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara but stands apart with its distinct exterior styling and cabin experience. The Ebella aims to strengthen Toyota's presence in India's growing EV segment.
Toyota has long experience with electrified cars abroad, including the RAV4 EV and many hybrids. The Ebella was unveiled on January 20, 2026, with deliveries planned for February 2026. We drove the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella for review, and here's how it performs on the road.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Review – Exterior Highlights
The Ebella features Toyota's signature 'Hammerhead' front design, giving it a unique identity on the road. Its exterior styling appears premium and comparatively less aggressive than the eVitara. Up front, the bumper gets vertical air vents and a closed grille typical of EV design. Segmented LED daytime running lights are positioned above triangular headlamps, helping differentiate it from its Maruti sibling.
A piano black bumper finish and redesigned bonnet add to its visual appeal. Since the electric powertrain is housed under the bonnet, the SUV does not offer a front storage space (frunk). It comes equipped with a front camera and parking sensors, although fog lamps are notably missing. From the side, the Ebella closely resembles the eVitara and rides on 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels designed to reduce drag. Black body cladding along the lower sections and Toyota BEV badging highlight its electric credentials.

The door handles feature request sensors, and the window surrounds are finished in matte black. The B-pillars carry a similar matte black treatment, while the ORVMs are finished in piano black. A dual-tone paint option with a contrasting black roof is also available. The rear door handles are neatly integrated into the C-pillar.
At the rear, the SUV adopts a clean and neat design. It gets a shark-fin antenna, high-mounted stop lamp, rear spoiler, defogger, and wiper. The LED tail lamps feature a segmented pattern similar to the front DRLs, though they are not connected across the tailgate. Toyota, Urban Cruiser, and Ebella badging complete the rear styling.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Review – Interior Highlights
The Ebella's cabin feels upmarket for its class, with a black and tan colour scheme. The dashboard mixes hard plastics with soft-touch panels, laid out in a neat design. Vertical AC vents give it a modern touch. Storage spaces are provided on and below the dashboard, adding to its practicality.
The steering wheel has a D-cut shape, flat at the bottom and slightly curved at the top, giving more comfort for the driver during long journeys. It carries the Toyota logo and has controls for the ADAS functions and media. This allows the driver to adjust safety and audio settings without taking their hands off the wheel or eyes off the road.

A 10.1-inch touchscreen sits in the centre, paired with a 10.25-inch digital driver display. The system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Toyota's i-Connect connected car tech is also included. A floating centre console holds the selector for Neutral, Reverse, and Drive, plus Sport and Eco modes for the powertrain.
Toyota offers ventilated front seats, although their controls are integrated into the infotainment system. A dedicated physical button would have been better and more practical. Rear passengers benefit from generous legroom along with three adjustable headrests. A fold-down rear armrest with two cup holders enhances comfort, especially when only two occupants are seated at the back.

The Ebella also has a single-pane fixed glass roof that functions like a moonroof, allowing more natural light into the cabin, although it does not open. Rear occupants get two charging sockets, rear AC vents, and independent blower controls for added convenience.
The rear seats provide decent thigh support for most passengers; however, taller occupants may find long journeys slightly less comfortable due to limited legroom and headroom. Higher variants are equipped with a JBL sound system, delivering an enhanced in-cabin audio experience.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella offers two battery choices: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 49 kWh pack claims an ARAI-certified range of 440 km. The larger 61 kWh pack increases the ARAI range to 543 km on a full charge, targeting users who travel more.
With a 49 kWh battery, the motor delivers 106 kW or 144 hp of power. With the 61 kWh pack, power rises to 128 kW, or 174 hp. Both setups deliver the same peak torque of 189 Nm. For India, the Ebella uses a front-wheel-drive layout.

In terms of size, the Ebella measures 4,285 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height. Kerb weight stands at 1,815 kg. The boot can take multiple trolley bags, making it useful for family trips. However, the tailgate is manually operated and not powered.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Review – Driving Impressions
The Ebella delivers the quick response expected from an EV. Instant torque from the motor helps it accelerate off the line very quickly. This makes stop-and-go city driving easy and helps with swift overtakes on open roads. The power build-up is smooth and predictable.
There are no gear changes, so power delivery feels direct and steady. The suspension is soft and comfy as it handles rough patches and small potholes with ease. Even on bad roads and broken highways, Ebella's cabin remains composed and stable, giving a comfortable ride for passengers.

The compact SUV's body keeps body roll in check through bends. The 18-inch wheels support grip and stability at high speeds. In tight urban spaces, the Ebella feels nimble and easy to drive. This should appeal to buyers who often drive in crowded city areas.
The steering gives useful feedback, so the driver feels in touch with the road. Overall, the Ebella combines quick performance with a stable feel, and the instant torque from the motor adds fun during daily drives.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Review – Safety & Comfort
Safety equipment on the Ebella includes standard seven airbags. The SUV also offers a Level 2 ADAS package. Features include lane keep assist, emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and rear traffic alert. These systems are designed to support the driver in varied traffic conditions.
The body structure uses high-tensile steel to boost rigidity. Battery thermal management keeps the pack within its ideal temperature range. These enhance passenger protection and consistent battery performance over time.

On the comfort front, the ventilated front seats make driving more pleasant during hot summers and long journeys. The stable suspension setup and the responsive electric powertrain support both ride and comfort. The Ebella feels easy to drive, whether navigating city traffic or cruising at highway speeds.
A 360-degree camera, along with a reverse parking camera, makes parking easier and helps minimise the chances of scratches or dents. These systems allow drivers to better judge kerbs, obstacles, and tight spaces in crowded areas. Combined with light steering and the compact dimensions of the SUV, they significantly reduce stress during dense urban driving.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Review – Verdict & Final Thoughts
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella comes across as a well-equipped electric SUV. It offers a long claimed range, a premium-feeling cabin, and a good list of comfort and safety features. On the move, it provides quick responses and a stable ride over different types of roads. The strong safety package, with seven airbags and Level 2 ADAS, is a clear win.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella will be suitable for buyers seeking a compact electric SUV with a credible range and practical features.
