You can have the Tata Zest for the lowest base price amongst the four here.
2. ARAI mileage (petrol versions)
The petrol car that should give you the best mileage is the Maruti Swift Dzire, but remember that ARAI figures are indicative, and not representative of real world conditions.
3. ARAI mileage (diesel versions)
The diesel car with the best mileage is the Maruti Swift Dzire again.
4. Visual Rating
We feel the Tata Zest is the most attractive car of the four compared here, but understand that this is entirely subjective. What do you think?
5. Key specifications (petrol engine versions)
The Tata Zest has the most powerful 89 bhp engine, but is also on the heavier side, tipping the scales at over 1.1 tons. Therefore the winner in this category is the Honda Amaze, which has the best balance of power and weight.
6. Key specifications (diesel engine versions)
The Honda Amaze eclipses the others again with regard to its technical specifications, with the highest power and torque by far, along with a relatively low kerb weight.
7. Base model key feature list
8. Boot space
You can store the most luggage in the Hyundai Xcent, as it features the biggest boot with capacity of 407 litres.
9. Fuel tank capacity
The Tata Zest wins this competition by a narrow margin with the biggest fuel tank (44 litres) of the lot.
10. Warranty
Tata Motors is extremely confident of the Zest's offering of long-term quality, and easily has the best warranty, which is valid for 3 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first.
11. Our verdict. And yours?
Overall, we feel the Tata Zest wins the value-for-money contest here. The Honda Amaze does come very, very close, but the Zest's combination of good looks, a spacious interior, best warranty, impressive feature list, and decent engine gives it top rating. Best of all, it's all-Indian!
However, we understand that everyone will have unique needs from their compact sedan, so it will finally come down to your choice. Just make sure you pick the car that comes the closest to meeting all your needs.
