Tata Tigor iCNG AMT Review: India's First CNG Automatic Sedan
The Tata Tigor iCNG hit the Indian buyers as soon as the company launched the car in the market. But, at that time, the Tigor CNG was only available with a manual gearbox.
On seeing the popularity of the automatics in the current days, Tata Motors updated the Tigor iCNG with a 5-speed AMT gearbox, making it India's first CNG automatic sedan. We got our hands on the car for a brief time and this is what we have to say.

Tata Tigor iCNG AMT Review: Design
As far as the design is concerned, the Tigor iCNG automatic remains unchanged completely (does not even get a badge). You get the same LED DRLs in the front along with the same headlight and foglight setup.
Also, the car gets chrome and piano black finishes at the front which gives it a premium look. Moving on, the sides get chrome finishing on the door handles and on the window trims. The automatic version runs on the same 14-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and the design also remains the same.

At the rear, you get some chrome finishing and clear lens taillights that have a mix-and-match setup of halogen and LEDs. You also get a spoiler and a big LED stoplight connected to the spoiler. It also gets a shark-fin antenna.
You also get the Tigor and iCNG badges on either side of the tailgate. The car gets a decent-quality reverse parking camera along with active guidelines that make parking easy at tight spots.

Moving on to the inside, the cabin of the Tigor iCNG also remains the same except for the AMT gear lever. The dashboard design remains the same and the AC vents get body-coloured treatment.
As far as the screen is concerned, the car gets the same 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets the same digital display for the instrumentation. Just the CNG fuel leveller has been added.

The car will always start on CNG first and there there is a dedicated button if one wants to switch to petrol or vice versa.
Seats also remain the same and despite being a dual-tank CNG vehicle, Tata Motors has cleverly integrated the tanks in such a way that there is still space for luggage. The capacity of both the CNG tanks combined is 70-litre water capacity.

Specs & Dimension
The Tata Tigor iCNG AMT is powered by the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that now produces 73.4PS of power in CNG mode and 86PS of power in petrol mode. However, the torque remains the same at 95NM. The good part is that now the engine is mated to a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Driving Impressions
Let's talk about the AMT gearbox first. Yes, it is a little slow, but I think it does its job really well. Well if you take a CNG car then you are looking to get the maximum mileage at a low cost and I think that the automatic on top of that makes a lot of sense.

In today's world, where there is stop-and-go traffic everywhere, automatics makes a lot of sense and makes life much easier in heavy traffic and now that is available with a CNG setup from factory.
The upshifts in the automatic mode feel really laggy, but on the flip side, once you switch to manual mode, the response increases slightly especially the downshifts. The car has a linear acceleration and a decent top end.
The suspension setup remains the same but different than the regular petrol Tiago. It has been tweaked to take the weight of the CNG tanks. The car feels planted at triple-digit speeds but is not at all a corner craver as there is significant body roll.
The Tata Tigor iCNG AMT is available in 5 colours and 3 variants. We could not check the mileage of the vehicle as it was there with us for a very short time, but we can tell you that with a full tank of CNG and petrol together one can do way over 700 plus kms easily.

Final Verdict
Overall the Tigor is a nice family sedan with a 4-start safety rating, ABS, EBD, airbags and many more features. But now since people are preferring automatics, I think that the Tigor iCNG AMT makes sense as it looks good, has the features and is under the 10 lakh budget mark.
