MG Majestor Review: The Fortuner Rival You’ve Been Waiting For

Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 saw MG Motor tease a host of new cars for the Indian market. And while most of these new cars have reached our roads, like the Cyberster electric convertible sports car and the MG M9 electric luxury MPV, the MG Majestor is now finally ready to rumble, after nearly a year and a half of teasing.

Now this full-sized body-on-frame SUV is here to challenge the D-Segment king, the Toyota Fortuner. So how does it stack up? We drove the MG Majestor in the Delhi NCR region to find out.

MG Majestor Review - Design, Features & Practicality

The silhouette of the MG Mjaestor closely mirrors that of the SAIC Motor Maxus D90, featuring an upright stance, deep wheel wells, and extensive body cladding. However, MG has gone to town on the styling to give the Majestor a more imposing look.

Up front, horizontal and vertical LED DRLs flank a 'Mosaic Matrix' grille. The headlights are integrated into flared bumper nostrils. Top variants ride on 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels housed within cladded, flared fenders.

The rear carries full-width tail-lights with multiple LED elements. The tailgate bears 'Morris Garages' and 'Majestor' badging, while the rear bumper includes faux exhaust tips and a skid plate. Fixed side steps are fitted as standard. Available colours include Metal Black, Pearl White, Concrete Grey, and Metal Ash.

The Majestor rides on a 2,950mm wheelbase - identical to the MG Gloster - allowing for a functional third row. Buyers can choose between a 6-seat layout with captain chairs in the middle row or a 7-seat configuration with a bench seat.

The dashboard features a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system running MG's i-Smart 2.0 connected car platform, paired with a 12.3-inch digital driver's display. A 12-speaker JBL audio system, 64-colour ambient lighting, twin-pane panoramic sunroof, dual wireless charging pads, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included across the range.

Electrically operated front seats offer cooling and multiple massage modes. The seats are large and offer quite a bit of padding. The second row of captain seats is among the best in the business for comfort, and there is more than enough space for even taller occupants to stretch out.

The third row of seats also offers more room than most SUVs of this size. However, if you are on the taller side of the Indian height spectrum (6 feet and more), you may find yourself wanting to stick to the first two rows.

Boot capacity with the third row in use stands at 343 litres. Folding the third row flat expands this to 1,350 litres. Storage provisions across all three rows include cup holders, bottle holders, dedicated pockets, and charging outlets.

A tri-zone automatic system with dedicated vents for third-row passengers handles climate control. An auto-tilting ORVM and gesture-activated tailgate are also part of the equipment list for the Majestor.

The Majestor's Level 2 ADAS suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, collision detection, lane-departure warning with lane-departure prevention, and blind-spot monitoring. Electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, and hill-descent control are standard fitment.

Other safety features on the Majestor include six airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, and a surround-view camera system with 360-degree coverage. Paddle shifters are also available on the Majestor.

MG Majestor Review - Specs & Dimensions

The MG Majestor is powered by a single 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine producing 215hp and 478Nm of torque. This is the same unit found in the higher-specification variants of the MG Gloster. An 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox handles all transmission duties, and there are paddle shifters for those wanting to get more involved in the drive

Drive is sent to either the rear wheels or all four wheels, depending on the variant selected. The on-demand 4WD system is paired with MG's 'M-Hub' terrain management software, offering up to 10 selectable terrain and drive modes. A dedicated low-speed transfer case and three differential locks underpin the 'M-Crawl' function for low-speed off-road use.

The Majestor measures 5,046mm in length, 2,016mm in width, and stands 1,876mm tall. The Majestor features a 2,950mm wheelbase. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and offers 219mm of ground clearance and can wade into water 810mm deep.

MG Majestor Review - Driving Impressions

On the move, the MG Majestor feels very composed. And while the engine is powerful, there are a few caveats. Below 2,000rpm, throttle response is sluggish, and the gearbox is slow to select the appropriate ratio. Past that threshold, boost arrives sharply, and the Majestor accelerates with purpose.

Paddle shifters allow manual gear selection, though the system refuses aggressive downshifts when engine revs are too high. The Majestor's engine redlines at 3,900rpm, keeping its character firmly in the long-legged, highway-focused bracket.

Highway cruising is where the Majestor is most at ease. Seventh and eighth gears are accessible at relaxed speeds, with sufficient torque reserves for overtakes without requiring a significant drop in ratios. Gearshifts at steady highway speeds are smooth and unobtrusive.

Refinement levels are a strong point of the Majestor. Engine, wind, and road noise are well-suppressed at both city and highway speeds. The ladder-frame chassis delivers a composed and settled ride for a body-on-frame SUV.

At low speeds, some vertical movement is present - typical of a ladder-frame platform - but the ride settles considerably as the speeds increase. The suspension handles broken road surfaces without significant harshness, and highway composure is maintained without excessive float.

MG Majestor Review offroading

Body roll is noticeable during cornering, as expected from a large, tall SUV. High-speed lane changes require measured inputs, particularly for rear-seat passenger comfort. The steering is light and direct, making the Majestor's 5,046mm length easier to manage than its dimensions suggest. It retains sufficient feedback at speed without feeling either nervous or overly slow in its responses.

Take it off the beaten path, and the MG Majestor does mind a bit of off-piste action. The Majestor's on-demand 4WD system handles loose and uneven terrain without significant difficulty. The 10-mode M-Hub terrain management system presents straightforward mode selection for varying surface conditions. Sharp gradients, ruts, and uneven obstacles are managed competently, aided by the M-Crawl function's low-speed transfer case and three differential locks.

MG Majestor Review - Verdict

The MG Majestor comes across as a built-for-purpose SUV. The Majestor is a competent highway and off-road SUV built around a spacious three-row cabin. The 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel delivers strong mid-range performance, while the M-Hub terrain system and M-Crawl function add genuine off-road utility.

However, the engine does feel a bit sluggish off the line. Low-speed throttle response and gearbox sluggishness remain the most notable drawbacks, particularly for urban use. The SUV's 5,046mm length adds to the challenge of city driving.

Only time will tell how the public reacts to this massive rival to the Toyota Fortuner. But from our side, we would recommend you shortlist the MG Majestor if you're in the market for a big 7-seater family SUV.
