2023 Tata Nexon EV Review: Design & Features - Inspired By The Curvv

Like its ICE siblings, the new 2023 Tata Nexon EV is inspired by the Curvv concept. At the front, the slick split headlamp design is enhanced by the LED light strip that runs across the bonnet and also acts as a charging indicator.

The only other major changes on the outside compared to the ICE versions of the 2023 Nexon on the EV include the .EV badges on the sides and the back, a different design for the grille section of the front bumper which also features a lowered Tata badge and a different look for the faux bash plate at the rear.

Otherwise, the new 2023 Tata Nexon EV is almost identical to its ICE-powered siblings with its new connected rear lights, roof-mounted spoiler, snazzy new wheels and in profile as well.

Step inside the new Nexon EV and the story is very much the same. The cabin is nearly identical to the ICE Nexon with the layered dash, ventilated seats, and dual-displays for the instrumentation and infotainment.

Wait, there is one change that needs to be highlighted, which is the fact that the infotainment screen has grown in size from 10.25 inches on the ICE to 12.3 inches, the largest in its class.

Everything else remains unchanged from the cooled glove box, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, touch-based HVAC controls, sunroof and JBL sound system all remain the same as the dino-burning Nexon.

Safety features too are the same with the Nexon EV boasting 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS, EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchoring points, parking sensors, emergency and breakdown call assistance, hill descent control and more.

2023 Tata Nexon EV Review: Specs & Dimensions - Identical But More Efficient

The new 2023 Tata Nexon EV ditches the Prime and Max badging for simpler MediumRange (MR) and Long Range (LR) nomenclature. While the battery packs remain unchanged at 30kWh (MR) and 40.5kWh (LR), the range of the Nexon EV has gone up thanks to a more aerodynamically efficient design.

This may also be down to the fact that both versions of the Tata Nexon EV produce less torque than before. While the MR pushes out 127bhp, the LR produces 143bhp. The MR has a 0-100km/h time of 8.9 seconds and a claimed top speed of 150km/h.

Both versions of the new 2023 Nexon EV produce 215Nm of peak torque. This means that the MR produces 30Nm less than the previous Prime model while the LR is down 38Nm compared to the Max model it replaces.

So what does this mean for the range? Well the MR now offers up to 325km of range while the LR cranks that number up to 465km, an increase of 12km for both variants.

Both variants now get a 7.2kW charger as an option. Home charging from 10-100 per cent with this charger takes 4.3 hours for the MR and 6 hours for the LR. The portable home charger raises this time to 10.5 hours and 15 hours respectively while DC fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes just 56 minutes for both models.

The new Nexon is quick off the line with the carmaker claiming an 8.9-second sprint to 100km/h for the Nexon EV MR. On the road, it Nexon EV does deliver on its promise and you'll find yourself hitting triple digits quite briskly.

Where the 2023 Nexon EV has improved over its predecessor is the fact that it no longer spins its wheels in sport mode when you put your foot down with the reduced torque and revised traction control allowing for a smooth getaway off the line.

The suspension setup of the new Nexon EV is slightly stiffer than on its ICE siblings but it is still soft enough that you don't notice the bumps and ruts our roads come with. That softness is also quite noticeable when you change directions with a small bit of body roll.

We didn't have time to really test out the claimed range of the 2023 Nexon EV properly by doing a full drain and recharge cycle. However, from our limited time with the new Nexon EV, we do believe it will do around 350km on a single charge (Long Range model).
