In 2012, the Maruti Suzuki Swift was awarded as the Indian Car Of Year, because it was the most loved car in the country. When Maruti launched the car in 2004, it went on to sell more cars than expected and it continues to do so even today.

Currently, the Swift is in its third generation and it has been nearly six years since it was updated. The 2017 Swift is expected to be launched end of 2016 or early 2017. Let us compare and find out what is new in the fourth generation Swift.

Exterior:

The essence of the Swift is definitely seen in the 2017 Swift, which is evolved to a mature and bold in looks. On the front profile, the grille and the air dam have been integrated and is one big hexagonal in shape.

Gone are the smooth bumpers, here in the new Swift, there are kinks which give solid characteristics. As for the headlamps, the upswept design has given way to chunkier and angular design, which will house the projector lamps and the DRLs.

On to the side profile, the 2017 Swift is seen with the roof tapering down and the shoulder line is straight and does not taper upwards like the old Swift. The new Swift is definitely sportier when you look at it from the side profile.

Moving to the rear profile, the same design language has been followed and the tail lamps are angular and there are edges on the tailgate and the bumper to give it a solid appearance.

Interior:

If the exterior looked premium with a touch of sportier feel, the interior looks sportier and modern. Round AC vents have come in place of the rectangular design seen in the old Swift.

As for the centre console, the HVAC controls are replaced with a rounded design, and the new touchscreen infotainment system has come in place of the old 2-din audio system. The MID is a twin-pod speedo console is a highlight emitting a modern yet sophisticated design.

The seats and the doors are of dual tone with a colour being added to give it a fresh look. The flat bottom steering wheel is impressive and premium.

Engine Specifications & Gearbox of the New Swift vs Old

The new Swift is powered by 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine. The petrol unit churns out 83bhp and torque peaks at 115Nm. As for the diesel unit, it develops 74bhp and torque of 190Nm.

Both the units are available mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox, however, the new Swift 2017 will come added with a CVT gearbox as an option.

The most significant change is the performance will be the availability of the 1.0-litre booster jet engine; which will be seen in the upcoming Baleno RS. Also, the Suzuki indigenously built 1.5-litre diesel engine which will come at a later date.

The first to notice is the touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, apart from that the New Swift is expected to feature rear AC vents, and cooled glovebox.

Also, the new Swift will feature with dual airbags and ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera and sensors. The possibility of keyless entry with start/stop button and better ergonomics in terms of storage.

Pricing of the New Swift vs Old

The New Maruti Swift is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh, there will be a difference of approximately Rs. 50,000 compared to the outgoing model.

The old Swift is the best hatchback currently and the new Swift will definitely take you to the next level of premium and sportier Swift. The new Swift is keeping pace with the currently technology and features and will remain competitive in the market.

With the customer looking towards the SUV segment, the new Swift might face stiff competition, however, for an enthusiast of a true blue hatchback, the new Swift is a contender.
