Porsche 911 GT4 R Unveiled As First 911-Based GT4 Customer Racer
Porsche has revealed the new 911 GT4 R, marking the first time the brand has based one of its GT4 customer racers on the 911 platform rather than the 718 Cayman. The car is set to make its competition debut during the 2027 motorsport season.
The 911 GT4 R will sit above the existing 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport in Porsche's customer motorsport range. It gets a more powerful engine, wider track and updated motorsport electronics compared to the Cayman-based car, and is priced at EUR 2,65,000 (approximately Rs 2.6 crore) plus country-specific VAT.

Porsche 911 GT4 R: Powertrain & Chassis
Power comes from a 4.0-litre flat-six borrowed from the 911 Cup, producing up to 520hp and 470Nm in unrestricted form. Regulation-mandated 53.7mm air intake restrictors bring this down to 430hp to comply with Balance of Performance norms in GT4 competition.
Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed sequential dog-gearbox, operated via steering-wheel paddleshifters and paired with a four-disc racing clutch. Compared to the 911 Cup, the GT4 R uses wheels that are one inch narrower, mounted on a five-hole pattern as per production-spec norms.

The car also features dual-adjustable dampers with three selectable spring rates for setup flexibility, along with additional ballast provisions that allow teams to meet different weight classifications under BoP regulations.
Porsche 911 GT4 R: Design & Interior
Several structural elements, including aerodynamic components, are shared with the 911 Cup. A manually adjustable rear wing offers eleven different position settings. Natural-fibre-reinforced plastic combined with epoxy resin has been used for the doors, engine cover and select aerodynamic parts to save weight.

Inside, the race-spec cabin features the same lightweight composite material, along with a carbon-fibre steering wheel and a roll cage. A 10.3-inch digital display relays information to the driver, while an integrated data logger paired with GPS equipment assists with performance analysis during races.
Porsche 911 GT4 R: Customer motorsport context
GT4 racing has grown into a key feeder category below GT3 since its introduction in the mid-2000s. Porsche entered the segment in 2016 and has since built more than 1,500 GT4 racers based on the Cayman for global series such as the ADAC GT4 Germany and the GT4 European Series.

The 911 GT4 R is aimed at teams seeking a higher-performance option within the GT4 bracket while continuing to run alongside the existing Cayman-based cars. Porsche has stated that the new model benefits directly from engineering work already carried out for the 911 Cup, which was introduced in July 2025.
