McLaren Reveals MCL-HY WEC Hypercar & Track-Only MCL-HY GTR
McLaren has simultaneously unveiled two cars: the MCL-HY FIA Hypercar destined for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the MCL-HY GTR, a track-only derivative developed in parallel.
The reveal of the MCL-HY also marks the brand's return to Le Mans for the first time since its legendary 1995 victory with the McLaren F1 GTR. Deliveries of the track-only MCL HY-GTR will commence at the end of 2027.

MCL-HY GTR - Engine & Powertrain
The MCL-HY race car is built to LMDh regulations on a lightweight carbon-fibre monocoque chassis. Power comes from a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 paired with a hybrid MGU system, producing a combined 520kW (707hp) to the rear axle, with a minimum weight of 1,030kg. On-track testing begins this month, with homologation targeted for late 2026 or early 2027.

The MCL-HY GTR strips out the mandated hybrid system entirely, running a standalone 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder racing engine. Output is approximately 730hp, 23hp more than the hybrid race car, while removing the MGU system reduces dry weight. McLaren describes the approach as delivering "authentic hypercar performance without additional complexity."
MCL-HY GTR - Ownership & Access
MCL-HY GTR buyers enter McLaren's Project: Endurance programme, which provides behind-the-scenes access to the WEC racing operation. That includes attending the 2027 24 Hours of Le Mans and observing the race car's testing and development cycle.

Ownership also includes a two-year, six-event international track driving programme, complete with professional driver coaching, a dedicated pit crew, and race engineering support, all on an arrive-and-drive basis.
MCL-HY - Test Livery & Driver Programme
The MCL-HY is currently wearing a 2026 test livery inspired by the McLaren M6A - the car Bruce McLaren envisioned taking to Le Mans as the M6G/T. The 2026 test programme features works driver Mikkel Jensen alongside McLaren DDP drivers Gregoire Saucy and Richard Verschoor, and United Autosports' Ben Hanley. The MCL-HY's WEC campaign completes McLaren's Triple Crown pursuit: the brand already competes at the top of Formula 1 and the NTT IndyCar Series, with Le Mans now the final piece.

Zak Brown, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Racing, stated, "Years and months in the making and here we are, revealing the MCL-HY to the world. McLaren Racing now has three race cars ready to contest the biggest motorsport series in the world; Formula 1, INDYCAR and WEC. This means McLaren, its partners and fans can challenge for the Triple Crown of Monaco GP, INDY500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans together, a unique cross-series story that sets us apart."
